Liposuction Mommy Makeover

Tired of Stubborn Fat That Won’t Budge?

You eat well, you stay active, and you have done the work. Yet certain areas hold onto fat no matter what. The lower belly. The hips. The back. The bra roll. For many, these spots resist every reasonable effort to slim them down.

Liposuction in NYC is the most direct way to remove pockets of stubborn fat and reshape the body. At our practice, lipo is one of the most flexible procedures we offer, used on its own or as a finishing step alongside a tummy tuck, breast surgery, or full mommy makeover.

Treatment time depends on how many areas you want addressed. A single zone may take under an hour while Lipo 360 or other mommy makeover procedures take several hours.

Benefits of Liposuction

Liposuction does more than remove fat. The right approach reshapes the body in a way that diet and exercise simply cannot match. Below are the benefits patients value most.

  • Permanent Fat Removal: Once fat cells are removed, they do not grow back, so your results stay with you long term.
  • A Boost to Mommy Makeover: Lipo refines the result of a tummy tuck, breast lift, or breast augmentation.
  • Smoother Body Lines: Stubborn bulges and uneven contours can be sculpted into clean, balanced shapes.
  • Better-Fitting Clothes: Even small fat reductions in the right areas can change how clothing falls and fits.
  • A Defined Waistline: Targeting the waist, flanks, and back creates the curve and definition many people want.
  • Minimal Downtime Compared to Other Surgeries: Most patients are back to daily life within a few days.

Ideal Candidates for Liposuction

Liposuction works best for patients who are close to their goal weight and bothered by specific areas of stubborn fat. Here are the situations where liposuction tends to deliver the best results.

Stubborn Fat Pockets

Targeted areas of fat that have not responded to diet or exercise are exactly what liposuction is designed for.

Stable, Healthy Weight

Patients near their goal weight see the cleanest, most lasting contour improvements.

Good Skin Elasticity

Skin that snaps back well after fat removal produces smoother, tighter results.

Pregnancy-Related Fat Redistribution

Many women notice fat settling in new areas after pregnancy, especially the hips, lower back, and bra line.

Post-Weight-Loss Refinement

Patients who have lost weight, including those on GLP-1 medications, often have remaining pockets that respond well to lipo.

Realistic Expectations

Liposuction reshapes problem areas but does not replace weight loss or treat loose skin or cellulite.

Our team will evaluate your candidacy for liposuction during your initial consultation.

Areas We Treat With Liposuction

Liposuction can target almost any part of the body where stubborn fat collects. The cost will vary depending on how many areas you treat and the amount of fat removed. Below are the most common areas treated at our practice.

Abdomen

The lower belly is the single most common area treated with lipo. It is also the area most affected by pregnancy, where fat tends to settle and resist diet and exercise.

Flanks

The flanks, also called love handles, sit along the sides of the waist. Treating this area sharpens the waistline and improves how clothing fits across the midsection.

Inner and Outer Thighs

The thighs are a common area women want addressed. Lipo creates a smoother line from waist to leg and can reduce the discomfort of thighs rubbing together.

Back and Bra Roll

Fat that bulges over the bra strap is one of the most-requested treatment areas. Smoothing the back creates a cleaner line under fitted clothing.

Arms

Upper arm liposuction targets the back of the arms where fat can sag with age or weight loss. The result is a slimmer, more toned look.

Bra Line and Underarm

The area just under the arm where the bra strap sits often holds small bulges. Treating this area is a quick fix that creates a clean upper-body.

What to Expect During a Consultation at our NYC Office

Most patients come into a liposuction consultation with specific areas in mind. Dr. Hoschander begins by asking exactly what bothers you, then physically examines those areas to assess fat volume, skin quality, and underlying tone.

We will be honest about what lipo can and cannot do. If skin laxity is a factor, we may recommend pairing liposuction with another procedure, such as a tummy tuck or skin-tightening treatment. We will also walk through which liposuction technique fits your case best.

If you are considering liposuction as part of a mommy makeover, the team at NYC Mommy Makeover Center will map out how the lipo would fit into your full surgical plan. You leave with a clear quote, a recommended approach, and answers to every question.

How to Prepare for Your Liposuction

Liposuction prep is straightforward, but a few specific steps matter for a clean result and a smooth recovery. Below are the things our patients should do before surgery day.

Compression Garment

Order a properly sized compression garment ahead of time. You will start wearing it the same day as surgery.

Stable Weight Before Surgery

Avoid major weight changes in the weeks before your procedure so your final result reflects your actual goal contour.

Hydrate Well

Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to surgery. Hydrated tissue is easier to treat and recovers faster.

Avoid Heavy Salt and Alcohol

Alcohol increases swelling. Cut back in the week before your procedure to start with a clean baseline.

Stop Certain Medications

Pause blood thinners, aspirin, and certain supplements as directed by our team before surgery.

Smoking and Transportation

Stop smoking at least four weeks before surgery and arrange a ride home from our facility on the day of your procedure.

A few small adjustments before liposuction make a meaningful difference in how your body responds to surgery.

What Happens During Your Liposuction Procedure

A clear understanding of each step helps the day feel less stressful. Below is a step-by-step walk-through of how your liposuction will unfold.

Before any anesthesia, our surgeon marks the areas to be treated. The marks act as a roadmap during surgery, and help guide even, symmetrical fat removal. Your specific concerns are reviewed one last time so the plan reflects exactly what you and Dr. Hoschander discussed in the consultation.

Once the markings are complete, you are taken into the operating room. Depending on the size of the treatment area, lipo can be done under local anesthesia with sedation or under general anesthesia. Your anesthesia plan is chosen for your comfort and the scope of the procedure.

A tumescent solution is then injected into the treatment areas. The solution numbs the area, shrinks blood vessels, and softens the fat so it is easier to remove. This step is one of the most important for a smooth, low-bruising recovery.

Tiny incisions are made in the skin near the treatment areas. The incisions are small enough to heal as nearly invisible scars in most patients. Each opening serves as the entry point for the cannula, which is the thin tube used to remove fat.

The cannula is moved gently through the fat layer, breaking up and suctioning out fat from the targeted areas. Our surgeon works in even, controlled passes to keep the result smooth. The goal is to sculpt a natural shape, and not over-thin the area.

Once we achieve the desired contour, the small incisions are closed with stitches. Your compression garment goes on right there in the operating room. After waking up, you will rest in our recovery suite before going home with a friend or family member.

Liposuction Techniques

Liposuction has evolved well beyond the basic procedure most people picture. Different techniques fit different bodies, areas, and goals. Below are the main options.

Tumescent Liposuction

Tumescent liposuction is the standard, time-tested approach used in most cases. A numbing solution is injected before fat is removed, which reduces bleeding and discomfort.

Power-Assisted (PAL)

PAL uses a vibrating cannula to break up fat faster and more evenly. It is well suited for larger treatment areas like the abdomen, flanks, or thighs.

Lipo 360

Lipo 360 treats the entire midsection in one session, including the abdomen, flanks, and lower back. It is one of the most popular techniques among mommy makeover patients.

Procedures Often Combined with Liposuction

Liposuction is one of the most flexible procedures in a mommy makeover. It pairs well with almost every other body procedure to refine the final result.

Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty handles loose skin and muscle separation, while lipo refines the surrounding areas like the flanks, hips, and lower back. The combination is one of the most common in our practice.

Breast Lift

A breast lift restores breast shape and position after pregnancy and breastfeeding. Adding lipo to the back, bra roll, or sides of the chest balances the upper body when paired with a lift.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation restores volume lost after pregnancy. Pairing it with liposuction creates a smoother, more balanced result from front to back, especially when fat transfer is part of the augmentation plan.

Labiaplasty

Some patients add labiaplasty to address labia changes from childbirth. Combining it with liposuction in a mommy makeover keeps recovery time consolidated.

Liposuction Recovery Timeline

Liposuction recovery is typically faster and easier than recovery from other body procedures. Most patients are back to normal life within a few days. Below is what to expect at each stage.

Days 1 to 3

You will rest at home as soreness, bruising, and swelling are most noticeable in the first few days. Pain is well managed with prescribed medication.

Week 1

Most patients are back to desk work within a week. Light walking is encouraged. The compression garment is worn around the clock during this stage.

Week 2

Bruising fades. Swelling is still present but improves daily. Most daily activities resume, though strenuous workouts should still wait.

Weeks 3 to 4

Light cardio is often cleared around week four while full workouts and heavy lifting are typically cleared at the six-week mark. The treated areas continue to refine.

Weeks 5 to 6

Final results come into view after a month. Residual swelling resolves, the treated areas settle into their new shape, and the contour you came in for becomes fully visible.

Months 3 to 6

The breasts settle into their final shape between three and six months. They feel softer, sit lower on the chest, and look the way they will long term.

Why Choose Us for Liposuction

The difference between average and excellent liposuction comes down to the surgeon’s eye and technique. Smooth, even contours require an experienced hand.

Dr. Hoschander is a board-certified plastic surgeon and the founder of the NYC Mommy Makeover Center. His practice focuses on the procedures that restore the body after pregnancy, weight loss, and aging. That focus has made him especially skilled at sculpting natural, balanced results in patients with multiple areas of concern.

Every liposuction procedure at our New York City practice is built around the patient. We take time to understand which areas bother you most and design a treatment plan that creates clean lines without over-thinning or under-treating any area.

Frequently Asked Questions About Liposuction

These frequently asked questions come up in most consultations. If yours is not listed, schedule a visit at the NYC Mommy Makeover Center and we can talk through it.

The procedure can run from under an hour for a small area to several hours for Lipo 360 or multiple zones. When liposuction is part of a mommy makeover, the total surgical time is longer because everything is handled in one session.

No. Liposuction is a body contouring procedure, not a weight loss tool. The best candidates are at or near their goal weight and bothered by specific stubborn areas.

Lipo incisions are tiny, often three to four millimeters across, and placed in discreet locations. Most heal into nearly invisible marks within several months.

The fat cells removed during liposuction are gone permanently. However, the remaining fat cells in your body can still grow if you gain significant weight, which can affect your contour over time.

On its own, no. Liposuction removes fat but does not tighten skin. Patients with significant skin laxity often pair lipo with a tummy tuck, BodyTite, or other skin-tightening option.

Yes. Liposuction is one of the most common additions to a tummy tuck, breast lift, breast augmentation, or full mommy makeover. The combination creates a more complete result in one surgery.

Lipo 360 treats the entire midsection in one procedure, including the abdomen, flanks, and lower back. It is ideal for patients who want a full waistline transformation rather than a single area treated.

Light walking starts the day of surgery. Light cardio is usually cleared around four weeks, while full workouts and heavy lifting are typically cleared at six weeks.
