Breast Augmentation NYC

Have Your Breasts Lost Volume After Pregnancy?

Pregnancy and breastfeeding can leave the breasts looking smaller, softer, or hollow at the top. For many women, it feels like the fullness they once had simply disappeared.

A breast augmentation in NYC restores that lost volume using saline implants, silicone implants, or your own fat. At our practice, augmentation is often combined with a breast lift, tummy tuck, or both as part of a complete mommy makeover.

Surgery itself is relatively quick, usually one to two hours, and is performed under general anesthesia at our accredited surgical facility. When paired with other procedures in a mommy makeover, you can expect a longer day of surgery but a single recovery period.

Benefits of a Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation helps restore what pregnancy and breastfeeding may have changed. Here’s what most women notice after surgery:

  • Restored Volume After Pregnancy: Implants and fat transfer can replace fullness lost during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Better Symmetry: Slight differences between the two breasts can be evened out with different implant sizes if needed.
  • A Shape That Fits Your Frame: Implants are selected to balance your proportions rather than imposing a one-size look.
  • Pairing With Other Procedures: Augmentation works seamlessly with a breast lift, tummy tuck, or liposuction in a single surgery.
  • Renewed Upper Pole Fullness: The deflated upper portion of the breast that pregnancy often leaves behind is one of the first things augmentation addresses.
  • Confidence in Clothing: Most patients describe feeling more comfortable in everything from swimsuits to t-shirts to nothing at all.

Ideal Candidates for a Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation works for a wide range of women, but the strongest candidates share a few common traits. Here are the situations where the procedure tends to deliver the most rewarding results.

Deflated Breasts After Breastfeeding

Volume loss after nursing is the single most common reason women come to our practice for augmentation.

Naturally Smaller Breasts

Patients who have always wanted more shape and fullness often figure implants for a balanced silhouette.

Uneven Breasts

Differences in size or shape between the two breasts can be corrected by tailoring each implant to the individual breast.

Empty Upper Breast

A flat or hollow appearance above the nipple often means that augmentation, sometimes paired with a lift, is the right approach.

Post-Weight-Loss Patients

This includes women who have lost weight on GLP-1 medications and noticed their breasts deflate as part of the change.

Stable Weight, Done With Pregnancies

Future pregnancies and significant weight changes can shift implant results, so candidacy improves once your body is steady.

Our team will evaluate your candidacy for a breast augmentation in NYC during your initial consultation.

What to Expect During a Consultation at our NYC Office

Most patients arrive at their consultation with at least a few questions about implants, sizing, and recovery. Dr. Hoschander begins by listening carefully to what you want, what you have read, and what you may still feel uncertain about.

A physical examination follows, with attention to your existing breast tissue, skin elasticity, and chest dimensions. We will then work through the choices that shape every breast augmentation: implant type, implant size, placement above or below the muscle, and incision location. Sizing tools and visual references can help if you are unsure.

If a breast lift, tummy tuck, or other procedure may benefit you, our team at the NYC Mommy Makeover Center will walk you through how those would fit into your plan. You will leave the consultation with a clear surgical recommendation, a personalized quote, and answers to all your questions.

How to Prepare for Your Breast Augmentation

Smart preparation makes the days after surgery easier and protects the result you came in for. Below are the steps we recommend in the weeks leading up to your procedure.

Soft Surgical Bra

Have a front-closure surgical or sports bra ready before surgery day so it is on hand the moment you come home.

Easy-Access Wardrobe

Set out button-down or zip-front shirts that you can put on without lifting your arms.

A Comfortable Recovery Spot

Stack pillows on a couch or bed where you can sleep upright comfortably for the first week or two.

Meals That Require No Effort

Stock the freezer and fridge with simple, protein-forward options so eating well takes no thought.

Medication Adjustments

Pause blood thinners, aspirin, and certain supplements as directed by our team in the weeks before surgery.

Smoking and Transportation

Stop smoking at least four weeks before surgery and arrange a ride home from our facility on the day of your procedure.

A small amount of planning goes a long way toward making your breast augmentation in NYC a smooth experience.

What Happens During Your Breast Augmentation

A clear understanding of each step helps the day feel less stressful. Below is a step-by-step walk-through of how your breast augmentation will unfold.

After you arrive at our surgical facility, the surgical team helps you change, places an IV, and reviews everything one last time. Dr. Hoschander meets with you to make a few final markings on the breasts. A board-certified anesthesiologist then puts you under general anesthesia. From that moment until you wake up, you will not feel a thing.

Most augmentations use one of three small incisions. The most common is in the breast crease itself, called the inframammary fold, which heals into a thin line hidden under the breast. The areolar incision runs along the lower edge of the areola. The transaxillary incision is placed in a natural fold of the underarm.

Through the small incision, our surgeon makes space for the implant. The pocket can sit under the chest muscle, called submuscular placement, or above it but behind the breast tissue, called subglandular placement. Each placement option has trade-offs in feel, appearance, and how the breast moves over time.

The implant is then carefully positioned inside the pocket. Saline implants are placed empty and filled to the chosen volume once they are inside. Silicone implants are pre-filled and inserted whole. If you chose fat transfer, fat is collected with liposuction from another part of the body and added to the breast in small layers.

With the implants in place, our surgeon checks the breasts side by side. Small refinements are made to ensure the breasts match in projection, height, and profile. If a breast lift is part of the surgical plan, the lift portion happens as well to set both volume and position in one go.

Once everything looks balanced, the incisions are closed with internal sutures and reinforced with surgical tape. Your surgical bra goes on right there in the operating room. After waking up in our recovery suite, our team monitors you for a short period before sending you home with a friend or family member.

Breast Augmentation Options

There is no single right answer to what kind of augmentation is best. Implants, fat, and combined approaches all serve different goals. Below is a closer look at each option.

Silicone Implants

Silicone gel implants closely mimic the feel of natural breast tissue. Most patients describe them as soft and natural to the touch.

This is the most chosen implant option in the United States and tends to be a strong fit for women with less natural breast tissue.

Saline Implants

Saline implants are filled with sterile saltwater after they are placed inside the breast pocket. The shell is silicone, but the inside is salt water.

Some patients prefer saline because the smaller incision needed to insert the empty shell can mean an even more discreet scar.

Fat Transfer

Fat transfer uses your own fat as the filler. Liposuction harvests fat from areas like the abdomen or thighs, and that fat is layered into the breast.

Fat transfer suits patients who want a modest size increase and prefer to avoid implants entirely.

Procedures Often Combined with a Breast Augmentation

Most augmentations at our practice are part of a larger mommy makeover. Combining surgeries means one anesthesia, one recovery, and a complete result instead of one done in pieces.

Breast Lift

A breast lift adds shape and lift to augmentation that just can’t come from implants alone. The combined procedure, augmentation mastopexy, is the most common pairing for mommy makeover patients.

Tummy Tuck

The same pregnancy that softens the breasts often loosens the abdomen. Pairing augmentation with a tummy tuck restores the chest and the midsection in one surgery and one recovery.

Liposuction

Liposuction can sculpt the waist, hips, back, or bra area at the same time. Together, augmentation and lipo create a smoother, more balanced upper body.

Labiaplasty

Some patients add labiaplasty to address changes in the labia from childbirth. Combining it with augmentation keeps recovery time consolidated and the overall result more complete.

Breast Augmentation Recovery Timeline

Recovery from a breast augmentation moves faster than recovery from many other body procedures. Most patients are surprised at how quickly they feel like themselves again. Here is a stage-by-stage aftercare look at what to expect.

Days 1 to 3

You will rest at home with a caregiver nearby. Tightness across the chest is the most common complaint as pain medication keeps discomfort manageable through the early days.

Week 1

Most patients are off prescription pain medication within a few days. Light walking is encouraged, and the surgical bra stays on around the clock during this stage.

Week 2

By this time, you should be able to get back to work. The chest may feel firm and the breasts may sit higher than they will in their final position, which is normal at this stage.

Weeks 3 to 4

Daily life returns to nearly normal after a few weeks. Light cardio is often cleared, but anything that activates the chest muscles needs to wait.

Weeks 5 to 6

Most patients are cleared for full workouts at six weeks, including chest exercises. Implants continue to drop and soften over time.

Months 3 to 6

The breasts settle into their final shape between three and six months. They feel softer, sit lower on the chest, and look the way they will long term.

Why Choose Dr. Hoschander for Your Breast Augmentation

The right surgeon for a breast augmentation is the one who understands not just the technique, but how the procedure fits your life and your goals.

Dr. Hoschander is a board-certified plastic surgeon and the founder of the NYC Mommy Makeover Center. His practice focuses on the procedures that restore the body after pregnancy, weight loss, and aging. That focus translates into refined technique, a deep understanding of the post-pregnancy patient, and a clear sense of how augmentation fits into a broader mommy makeover plan.

Every breast augmentation at our NYC practice begins with the patient. We weigh implant choice, placement, and incision options together, with your anatomy and your aesthetic goals as the starting point.

Frequently Asked Questions About Breast Augmentations

These questions about surgery come up in nearly every consultation. If yours is not here, schedule a visit to the NYC Mommy Makeover Center and we can talk through it.

A standalone augmentation usually takes one to two hours. When combined with a breast lift, tummy tuck, or other procedures in a mommy makeover, the total time in surgery is longer, but everything happens in one session.

That decision depends on your anatomy, your goals, and how you want the breasts to feel. Silicone feels closest to natural tissue. Saline can mean a smaller incision. Fat transfer uses your own body as the filler. We will walk through each one in your consultation.

Some scarring is unavoidable after any surgery. Most augmentation incisions are tucked into the breast crease, the edge of the areola, or the underarm so they remain hidden in clothing. Scars fade significantly over the first year.

If your nipples sit at or below the breast crease, a lift is usually needed to reposition the breasts along with adding volume. The combined procedure, called augmentation mastopexy, is one of the most common surgeries we perform on mommy makeover patients.

Yes, and many patients do. The combination addresses two of the most common post-pregnancy concerns in one mommy makeover surgery. The overall mommy makeover cost will depend on the type of implant, the extent of your tummy tuck, and your specific goals.

Most patients still have the ability to breastfeed, especially when the inframammary incision is used. That said, no breast surgery can fully guarantee future breastfeeding.

Implants are designed to last well over a decade for most patients. They are not lifetime devices, and some patients eventually choose to replace or remove them.

That depends on the implant choice, placement, and how well the size matches your frame. Our team makes those decisions with you so the result looks like a natural enhancement, not an obvious one.
