Breast Lift Mommy Makeover

Are You Bothered by Sagging or Drooping Breasts?

After pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight changes, breasts often lose their shape, position, and firmness. Many women feel like their breasts no longer match the rest of their body, and no bra or workout can change that.

A breast lift, also called a mastopexy, raises and reshapes the breasts to a higher, more natural position on the chest. For many patients at our practice, a breast lift is one of the foundational procedures of a mommy makeover and pairs well with a tummy tuck or breast augmentation.

A standalone breast lift typically takes two to three hours under general anesthesia at our accredited surgical facility. When combined with other procedures as part of a mommy makeover, surgical time may be longer to address everything in a single session.

Benefits of a Breast Lift

A breast lift offers several benefits that go beyond appearance and can improve how you feel in your everyday life.

  • Lifted, Natural Position: A breast lift raises the breasts to a higher, more natural position on the chest.
  • Better Fit in Clothing: Lifted breasts often improve how clothing, swimsuits, and bras fit against your frame.
  • Reshaped Breast Tissue: Sagging breast tissue is reshaped for a firmer, perkier, and more rounded contour.
  • One Surgery: A breast lift pairs naturally with a tummy tuck, breast augmentation, or both as part of a mommy makeover.
  • Repositioned Nipples: Nipples are repositioned to face forward, and large or stretched areolas can be reduced in size.
  • Long-Lasting, Natural Results: With a stable weight and supportive care, your breast lift results can last for years.

Ideal Candidates for a Breast Lift

A breast lift is best suited for patients with specific breast concerns related to position, shape, or skin laxity. Most candidates fall into a few common categories that share a similar set of physical traits.

Sagging Breasts After Pregnancy

Pregnancy and breastfeeding stretch the breast tissue and skin, which often leaves the breasts lower and less firm than before.

Nipples That Sit Below the Crease

When the nipple falls below the breast crease, this is called ptosis and is a strong indicator that a lift would help.

Stretched or Enlarged Areolas

Areolas that have become wider or more downward-pointing can be reshaped during a breast lift.

Loss of Breast Volume in the Upper Pole

Deflation in the upper portion of the breast often pairs well with adding implants for fuller, lifted results.

Significant Weight Loss Patients

This includes women on GLP-1 medications who have lost weight and want to address the sagging that follows.

Done With Future Pregnancies

Future pregnancies can stretch breast tissue again and reverse breast lift results, so timing matters for lasting outcomes.

A consultation at the NYC Mommy Makeover Center is your first step toward designing the right surgical plan for your body.

What to Expect During a Consultation at our NYC Office

Your breast lift consultation begins with an honest conversation. Dr. Hoschander will listen to your goals, ask about your medical and pregnancy history, and examine the breasts to assess size, shape, position, and skin elasticity.

From there, we will walk you through what a breast lift can realistically achieve for your body and how it might fit into a broader mommy makeover plan if other procedures are right for you. We will explain the incision options, how implants may factor in, and what your final results may look like.

The team at the NYC Mommy Makeover Center will then review every detail of the process with you. This includes pre-operative preparation, what to expect on surgery day, recovery timelines, and financing options. By the end of the visit, you will have a clear plan and a personalized quote.

How to Prepare for Your Breast Lift

Good preparation makes recovery smoother and helps protect your final result. Below are the steps every patient should take in the weeks leading up to surgery.

Surgical Bra

Purchase a soft, supportive surgical or sports bra ahead of time so it is ready the day you come home from surgery.

Front-Closure Clothing

Set aside button-down or zip-front shirts to make dressing easier in the days after your procedure.

Stock the Pantry

Prepare easy meals and protein-rich snacks in advance to fuel healing during the first week without much effort.

Recovery Setup

Prepare a comfortable recovery space with extra pillows to keep your upper body elevated while resting and sleeping.

Stop Certain Medications

Pause blood thinners, aspirin, and certain supplements as directed by our team before surgery.

Quit Smoking and Arrange a Ride

Stop smoking at least four weeks before surgery and arrange transportation home from our surgical facility.

Taking time to prepare for a breast lift in NYC helps protect your safety and supports a faster recovery.

What Happens During Your Breast Lift

A clear understanding of each step can help you feel more in control on the day of surgery. Here is a step-by-step look at how the procedure unfolds from start to finish.

Your breast lift starts with anesthesia, which keeps you fully asleep the whole time. Before you go to sleep, our surgeon and the surgical team meet with you once more. They mark your breasts, answer any last questions, and confirm the plan. A board-certified anesthesiologist gives you the anesthesia, and you will not feel or remember any part of the surgery.

Once you are asleep, our surgeon makes the incisions. The pattern depends on how much your breasts have sagged. The incision may go around the edge of the areola, run straight down to the breast crease, or include a third cut along the crease itself.

Next, the breast tissue is gently lifted and reshaped. Loose tissue is moved higher on the chest, and the breast is shaped into a rounder, perkier form. This is the step that creates the lifted look.

The nipple and areola are then moved to a higher, more natural spot on the breast. If the areola has stretched out over time, it can also be made smaller. The nipple usually stays connected to its original tissue, which helps protect feeling and the chance to breastfeed in the future.

Loose skin is trimmed away to tighten the breast and support its new shape. If you are also getting implants, they are placed during this step. This is part of a procedure called augmentation mastopexy, which lifts and adds volume in one surgery.

Once the new shape is set, the incisions are closed with stitches placed under the skin. A surgical bra is also put on before you wake up. You will rest in our recovery area until you are ready to go home with a friend or family member.

Breast Lift Techniques

There is no single approach to a breast lift. Our team will recommend the technique that best fits your anatomy, the degree of sagging, and your aesthetic goals.

Periareolar (Donut) Lift

The periareolar lift uses a single incision around the edge of the areola. It produces the smallest scar and is best for patients with mild sagging.

This technique works well for women who need only a slight lift and may also want a small reduction in areola size.

Vertical (Lollipop) Lift

The vertical lift uses two incisions, one around the areola and a second running vertically down to the breast crease. The shape resembles a lollipop.

This technique is well suited for patients with moderate sagging who need both reshaping and skin removal.

Anchor Lift

The anchor lift uses three incisions, around the areola, vertically down to the crease, and horizontally along the crease itself. It allows the most reshaping and skin removal.

This is the most common technique for mommy makeover patients, since pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight changes often cause significant sagging that benefits from a fuller lift.

Procedures Often Combined with a Breast Lift

A breast lift is one of the foundational procedures of a mommy makeover at our practice. Combining procedures into one surgery shortens recovery, reduces total cost, and delivers a complete transformation in one step.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is the most common addition to a breast lift. The combination, often called augmentation mastopexy, restores both the position and the volume of the breasts in one procedure. This is one of the most requested combinations at our practice.

Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck addresses the abdominal changes that often come with the same pregnancy that affected the breasts. Pairing a breast lift with a tummy tuck addresses the two most common post-pregnancy concerns in one mommy makeover.

Liposuction

Liposuction can refine the waist, hips, back, or bra roll alongside a breast lift. This combination helps balance the upper body and creates a more balanced overall result from top to bottom.

Labiaplasty

Some patients choose to add labiaplasty to address changes in the labia after childbirth. Combining it with a breast lift means one recovery period instead of two and taking care of multiple problem areas all at once.

Breast Lift Recovery Timeline

Most patients heal from a breast lift as part of a mommy makeover over the course of several months. Below is a general timeline of what to expect at each stage, from the first day of recovery through your final results.

Days 1 to 3

You will rest at home with help from a caregiver at the start. Soreness, swelling, and tightness across the chest are normal, and pain is well managed with prescribed medication.

Week 1

Light walking and gentle daily activities are fine. Most patients are off prescription pain medication within a few days. The surgical bra is worn at all times during this stage.

Week 2

Most patients return to desk work and light daily activity by now. The breasts may still feel tight or sensitive, and the surgical bra continues to support healing.

Weeks 3 to 4

You will feel close to normal in everyday life by the month mark. Light cardio is often cleared around week three or four, but heavy lifting and overhead movements should still be avoided.

Weeks 5 to 6

Full workouts and strenuous activity are typically cleared at the six-week mark. Swelling continues to fade as the breasts begin to settle into their final position.

Months 3 to 6

Final results come into view between three and six months post-surgery. Residual swelling resolves, scars fade, and the breasts reach their final shape.

Frequently Asked Questions About Breast Lifts

Here are the questions we hear most often from patients considering a breast lift, whether on its own or as part of a mommy makeover. If your question is not answered here, schedule a consultation at the NYC Mommy Makeover Center to learn more.

A standalone breast lift typically takes two to three hours under general anesthesia. When performed as part of a mommy makeover with a tummy tuck, breast augmentation, or other procedures, the total surgical time will be longer to address everything in one session.

Some scarring is unavoidable, but our surgeon uses techniques to keep incisions discreet and well placed. Most scars fade significantly over the first year and can be improved with topical or laser treatments.

Yes. The combination is called augmentation mastopexy. It addresses both the position and the volume of the breasts in a single procedure and is one of the most common breast lift combinations at our practice.

A breast lift reshapes and lifts the breast but does not significantly change its size. Patients who want a fuller breast typically combine the lift with implants. Patients who want a smaller breast may consider a breast reduction instead.

Most patients retain the ability to breastfeed after a breast lift, since the nipple usually remains attached to its underlying tissue. However, breastfeeding can never be guaranteed after any breast surgery.

Yes. A breast lift and tummy tuck combo is one of the most common pairings in a mommy makeover. This combination addresses the two most common post-pregnancy concerns in one surgery. The overall mommy makeover cost will depend on the complexity of each procedure and your specific goals.

Most patients retain normal nipple sensation after a breast lift, though temporary changes are common during healing. Permanent changes in sensation are rare with modern techniques.

Breast lift results are long-lasting but not permanent. Aging, weight changes, and future pregnancies can affect the breasts over time. Maintain a stable weight and wear a supportive bra to help preserve your results for many years.
